The Jaguar Drivers’ Club is described as the original drivers’ club for Jaguar owners and enthusiasts. It runs a stream of events each year for fans of the marque, as well as several services that can help members celebrate, showcase and maintain their passion.
Robin Green’s SS100 won two prestigious awards at JDC’s National Day at Highclere Castle in 2008 and had been entered again in this year’s SS Register Annual Concours, this time at Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire, one of England’s finest historic houses.
Curiously, the National Day is a two-day special display of cars and a variety of attractions for all the family, but specifically for Jaguar fans. This year, the ‘day’ also incorporated a special event to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Jaguar’s statesman-like MkII.
Fortunately for one and all, the weather on July 12th was more than gracious – in sharp contrast to our experience in the rain and mud at Highclere Castle the previous year. Beautiful blue skies throughout the day helped provide the perfect backdrop amidst the majestic grounds of Woburn’s spectacular 3,000 acres.
Despite another very high class field, for the second year running Robin’s pride and joy triumphed and was awarded SS 100 Car of the Day, collecting the coveted Ian Appleyard Trophy. This is the third year in a row that JD Classics’ cars have won the JDC’s SS100 Car of the Day award – twice with Robin Green’s car and once in 2007 with John Brewster’s 3.5 litre.
But Robin’s treasure hadn’t finished yet. Once again this historic SS100 went on to scoop the JDC’s definitive prize, Car of the Day. This was a timely fillip for the August trip to the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours, where even stiffer competition awaited.
Woburn Abbey is said to be one of Britain’s most treasured houses. Robin’s SS100 has to be his most treasured classic car. And if it wins too many more accolades, it’ll have to go down as one of history’s most decorated SS100s, too.
