Description

A very rare 'timewarp'... purchased by the previous owner in 2009 with 177 miles on the clock after being rebuilt (MoT from April 2009 shows 174 miles). The Car underwent a full ‘nut & bolt’ rebuild in 2008/09 and he owned the car from 1987 to 2008.

It was built as a ‘street legal’ track day event car and has a 245bhp blue-printed engine built by Real Steel of Cowley, is immaculate and has a very low mileage (currently under 4000). We have compiled a ‘spec sheet’ to list the work carried out on this car and current MoT showing the mileage build up. The car is now a ‘Historic Vehicle’ for MoT and VED status since May 2022, which is always helpful with running costs.  The spec is fast road specification in that the aim is to make the car look as ‘standard’ as possible but with significant improvements to engine/suspension/brakes.

As a comparison, this TR we find is a much better car to drive than for example the similar sized Sunbeam Tiger, which has a similar capacity or a cast-iron block Ford Mustang V8 engine. The cast iron block is heavier in the nose of the Tiger compared with the all-alloy unit in the TR8 (which is only 4 lbs heavier than the TR7 2-litre slant 4-cylinder engine, so the balance is unaffected). In addition, the TR8 has more modern suspension, and this one has a HiSpec Motorsport four-wheel disc brakes set up + high ratio back axle too, more suitable for stopping the performance available as well, plus hydraulic power steering gives it a Lotus like feel on the road (albeit with more grunt!).
