On six Sundays, from June through to November, classic car enthusiasts can book a free tour of JD Classics’ Maldon sales and restoration complex for a guided tour behind the scenes of our highly-regarded operation. Originally, four dates were scheduled. But demand was so strong, another two dates have been added for October and November.
Club members, as well as individual enthusiasts with a classic car or modern supercar, will be able to take a good look at our mechanical, body race, engine, machine and trim shops, and the storage room (where vehicles wait for restoration and sale). Both fully-stocked showrooms where several spectacular classics are on show will also be open for viewing.
Carl Moss, JD Classics’ Sales Director, explained that the idea to entertain classic car enthusiasts across these four ‘Breakfast at JD’s’ days makes perfect sense for both parties.
“Club secretaries and enthusiasts often call us for a tour of our purpose-built premises,” he explained. “But while we’re delighted to have them and their club members around, it’s often a challenge to be as hospitable as we’d like with customers looking to view or even buy vehicles at the same time.
“So we’ve taken the customers out of the equation by opening our doors to these tours on a Sunday. And as the workshops aren’t staffed on a Sunday either, we can give our guests a full tour of our complex and field their questions without any distractions.”
Your host on the tour will either be Carl Moss or owner and founder Derek Hood. Depending on availability, you might even have both! Well-prepared refreshments will be on hand too, available at reasonable prices.
Dates available in 2009 are 14th June, 19th July, 2nd August, 6th September, 4th October and the 8th November. Each tour begins at 8.30am and runs through until 11am. With demand expected to be high, bookings for club tours are made on a first-come, first-served basis (although classic or supercar enthusiasts who'd like to come and who aren't part of a larger group are free to simply turn up on the day).
